Architecture found: The Museum Selma takes shape
Where steel sheets were once cast and rolled, the Museum Selma will become a pioneering cultural building in the coming years. Another important milestone has now been reached on the way to the creation of this venue: With Atelier Brückner, an internationally renowned partner for architecture and exhibition design has been found.
The general planning team for the Museum Selma has been chosen: Atelier Brückner from Stuttgart has won over the jury with a consistently sustainable design for the architecture and exhibition design. A Europe-wide award procedure has come to a successful end with this winning design.
‘What impressed us about the concept submitted by Atelier Brückner was the open and flexible room layout as well as the sustainable construction method,’ explains Yordanos Asghedom, project manager for the museum building at the supporting organisation DOMiD.
Over the next few years, a museum building will be created in Hall 70 on the former KHD site in Cologne-Kalk, which will largely retain the special character of the former factory building – as a first glimpse of the museum shows.
Based on a modern museum concept, the nationwide migration museum Museum Selma retells the history of Germany. The opening is planned for 2029, subject to external factors.
